[PRESS RELEASE 9/28/06]:

Wilson County has moved one step closer to forming the new “Wilson County Economic Development Alliance.”  With a go-ahead nod from the Wilson County Board of Commissioners, the Alliance cleared the final hurdle necessary by gaining the last needed block of support for its formation.  The two other cornerstones of the Alliance, the Cities of Fredonia and Neodesha, have already given their support toward the effort.

The Alliance, a county-wide action council that will serve as a new force for economic development, is designed to support current business, to recruit new (and diversified) business, to promote economic diversity, to pursue grants and other supplemental funding, to develop partnerships with corporate site selectors, to strengthen business and governmental relationships within Wilson County, and to support entrepreneurship and workforce development.  Currently the board will be made up of six (6) members each from Fredonia, Neodesha and Wilson County, as well as, one additional from the City of Coyville, which has also voted to join the Alliance, bringing the total current board membership to nineteen. All incorporated cities in Wilson County have now been invited to join.

The six seats for both Neodesha and Fredonia will be comprised of one city commissioner delegate, the city administrator, a chamber board delegate, and three (3) at-large appointments. Similarly, the county will be represented by a delegate from the county commission, the county coordinator, a delegate from Leadership Wilson County, and three at-large appointments. For the next two weeks, ads will appear in both county newspapers soliciting potential members.

The next step will be for each of the participating entities to select its representatives to the board.

The current schedule calls for appointments to be made in middle October and for the newly formed Alliance board to hold its first and organizational meeting in November. Some of the first orders of business for the new Alliance general board will be to select a Nominating Committee for its Executive Committee, to begin the search process for a new Executive Director, and to finalize the organization’s bylaws. In order of succession, the Executive Committee will be comprised of a President, Vice President (President-elect), Secretary, Treasurer, and Member At-Large. Also, following his or her term as President, the individual will also serve one additional year on the Executive Committee before rotating off in the capacity of “Immediate Past President.”

The Executive Committee, as well as the entirety of the Alliance, has been tailor-made to allow all parties in the county to stake part in the greater good brought about by the joint effort. In fact, Alliance organizers plan for the Alliance to foster a sense of well-being and strength through cooperation.

To that end, the Executive Director, who will report to the Executive Board, will maintain an active office in both Neodesha and Fredonia.
