The City of Neodesha has an opening for a Lineman or Lineman Apprentice.
Applicants for Lineman must have a minimum of one year of similar or related experience and Applicants for Lineman Apprentice should have some experience working with electricity but do not need a Journeyman/Lineman certification. This apprenticeship is for two years during which time the employee will be trained.
Lineman Job Description:
Job Description: The electric lineman performs work in the construction and maintenance of the City’s electrical distribution system and assists in other functions of the department as needed. Portions of work are conducted in association with potentially hazardous conditions due to the presence of the energized electrical system. The lineman assists in the maintenance of power lines, transformers, meters and other electrical equipment.
Essential Functions: The electric lineman assists in locating power outages/problems; assists in locating underground cable; operates equipment to support construction and maintenance of the City’s electrical infrastructure; assists in maintenance and repair of overhead and/or underground distribution lines and equipment; assists in the construction of overhead and/or underground distribution lines and equipment; assists in the maintenance of the City’s substation(s); assists in the maintenance of sections equipment and vehicles.
Minimum Qualifications: The employee is required to have a minimum of one (1) year of similar or related experience. The electric lineman must have at a minimum, a high school diploma or GED. Supplemental training in electric power distribution is preferred. The employee is required to have a valid Commercial Drivers License. In addition to the minimum requirements, the lineman must have a working knowledge of electric power distribution system maintenance and construction. The lineman must be able to operate heavy equipment and other vehicles as well as portable power tools. Must have good communication skills as well as the ability to read and interpret manuals and written instructions.
Candidates for either position must have a high school diploma or GED, must have a working knowledge of electric power distribution system maintenance and construction, and be able to respond within 15 minutes of being called to duty.
